Full Job Description

Can you keep your cool when there's bumper to bumper traffic that might make you late to collect your next patient?

Our Ambulance Care Assistants are highly trained, caring professionals, treating our patients with kindness, empathy, and dignity on their way to and from appointments.

There's a lot of driving, plenty of lifting and helping patients into our vehicles, and always loads of caring.

To be a part of our team and work in a privileged and trusted role with members of the public, you'll need to be a people person, have empathy and patience, with the ability to make good judgment calls. You do not need to have a medical background, just a desire to help.

As lifting is an integral part of the role, looking after yourself, keeping fit and strong should also be a priority for you. We all contribute professionally to the wider team that we operate within here at SCAS, as we all have an important role to play in patient care.

If this sounds like a challenge you'll relish, and you have the resilience to achieve this time and time again throughout your working day, we want to hear from you!,

  • Taking patients to and from their medical appointments and treating them with dignity.

  • Moving and lifting patients who need help.

  • Driving a long wheel-base vehicle with manual transmission.

  • Shift Work. You'll work a variety of shifts from 0600-midnight, both on your own and with a colleague.

  • Full time role is 37.5 hours a week or a Bank agreement with 0 hours.

  • The Ambulance Care Assistant (ACA) role is a gateway into the Ambulance Service. People who join as an ACA can go on to be Team Leaders or Managers within their area or move to work in the frontline teams or one of the many support and corporate teams.

We would like to advise all applicants that from 1st April 2025, SCAS will no longer be managing the Patient Transport Services (PTS) contract in the Thames Valley region. Therefore if you are successful with your application, pass interview and assessment and are offered the job, you will be employed (or engaged on a bank basis) by SCAS up until 31st March 2025. We are expecting this to fall under Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment (TUPE) rights, which means the new employer who will be managing the contract will take over your terms of employment from 1st April 2025. For further information on TUPE please follow this link: What a TUPE transfer is - TUPE: employee rights - Acas
