Full Job Description

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a motivated individual to join our friendly Endoscopy team at Colchester Hospital. We provide a service for inpatient and outpatients undertaking diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including bowel cancer screening, Endoscopies, Bronchoscopies, ERCP, EBUS and ascitic drains. We are a very busy unit providing care from 0730 to 1900 Monday to Sunday and an out of hours on call service. There is no expectation that candidate will have any endoscopy experience, just a willingness to learn some new skills in a busy environment. Comprehensive training will be provided within the Department. We are building a new endoscopy outpatients' unit on Colchester hospital site, which will have 4 outpatient procedure rooms. We are currently refurbishing Elmstead endoscopy unit which will be accommodating our inpatients and our complex outpatients. We also have a brand-new community diagnostics centre in Clacton which two outpatient endoscopy rooms. We are pleased to be able to advertise for this exciting opportunity within the Endoscopy Department The department run a 7 day service 0730 to 1830

  • To provide the Endoscopy Unit with correctly packed and processed instruments/Scopes/medical devices required for clinical use, in a timely & efficient manner.
  • Participate in training programmes as required.
  • With appropriate training successfully complete the Care Certificate (if not already completed) within 6 months (from the start of employment).
  • Support with receiving patients during busy periods, welcome and orientate patients and their relatives to the clinical area. (admission, transfer, and discharge)
  • Dispose of body fluids, soiled linen, clothing etc. and manage spillages in line with the Trust Infection Control Policy and Waste Disposal Regulations
  • The role may involve assisting the Endoscopist with simple accessorising during procedures under supervision
