Full Job Description

As an Apprentice Health & Safety Advisor, you will study towards your NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma for Occupational Health & Safety Management qualification, whilst receiving in house mentoring and coaching, and gaining hands-on experience.

You will be joining our team of passionate professionals to develop your skills, knowledge, and technical application among a diverse set of business areas and environments; offices, studios, outside broadcast, and production locations.

This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to learn from experienced practitioners and business leaders, while contributing directly to the development of our safety management framework, programmes and initiatives.

Our Safety, Security and Resilience Team: The Safety, Security and Resilience team is responsible for delivering business sensitive safety, security and incident management support and advice to executive leaders, senior managers, editors, producers and staff across News UK.

Day to day you will:

You will provide business wide operational support, advice and guidance, taking the approach to actively engage business stakeholders, build awareness, and promote ownership among business leaders and line managers.

  • Provide advice and guidance

  • Produce risk assessments

  • Assist wider business in risk assessment development processes

  • Monitor and administrate the Occurrence Reporting scheme

  • Oversee the investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses

  • Produce data reports and provide analysis

  • Conduct office, studio and production inspections

  • Liaise with stakeholders to identify training needs

  • Deliver training such as new starter inductions, Fire Marshal, Manual Handling, Risk Assessment, Toolbox talks.

  • Prepare Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans

  • Carry out New and Expectant Mother risk assessments

  • Assist with policy development

  • Co-chair Health & Safety Committee meetings

    NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety, A passion for pursuing a career in health & safety

  • Excellent communication skills and comfortable engaging with people across a variety of business areas and at different levels

  • Be able to work independently and on initiative, as well as being able to collaborate as part of a wider team

  • Be organised and methodical in your approach to work and problem solving

  • Have experience of working in the media, news, or production sectors

  • Commitment to the course and completing all modules and assignments

  • Five GCSEs grade 4-9 (A-C), including Maths and English
