We have an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Laboratory Support Technician to join the fantastic Oxford Centre for Immuno-Oncology, Nuffield Department of Medicine. You will be required to complete a two-year training program that will cover all aspects of the role and will be delivered through in-house training and online distance learning delivered by CSR Scientific Training.
You will be trained in a range of technical activities by working alongside administrative staff, technical staff, researchers, and postgraduate students. Your work will range from general laboratory housekeeping to understanding the management of scientific equipment, Health & Safety within a scientific workplace, purchasing equipment/supplies, and helping with scientific tasks within the laboratory.
You will be responsible for learning general laboratory housekeeping and following relevant Health and Safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment is maintained. You will be tasked with communicating with the Goods-In team and assisting the other members of the Laboratory Management team in organising and distributing incoming goods to their respective users and receipting incoming goods, under supervision. You will be developing skills and knowledge to maintain stocks of chemicals, laboratory reagents, and consumables, purchasing goods and services when necessary. You will also be responsible for assisting the Laboratory Manager in maintaining electronic and other records for general laboratory administration.

To be successful in this role, you will be educated to GCSE standard (English and Maths grade 4/C or above) or equivalent and be able to communicate clearly and accurately in English when drafting information for documents, handbooks, or websites. You will have experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel, and be able to demonstrate an aptitude for the skills taught in the Apprenticeship (for example through work experience, qualifications, or references). You will also have the ability to follow directions and training from others and work well with others.

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 14 months and is funded by the Department.
