Full Job Description

Apprenticeship Programmes are a great way to earn and learn! Our Trade Effluent Technician Apprentice Programme offers the perfect blend of operational and stakeholder management exposures whilst also featuring admin activity required to ensure internal and external targets are met. Entering an apprenticeship scheme with us involves working towards the role of a fully-fledged professional, earning a salary, whilst also being able to maintain a sense of academic achievement. At Severn Trent we provide the perfect mix between hands-on experience and a formal qualification, enabling our apprentices to make a real lasting difference to our customers and communities, not just for now, but far into the future. As an apprentice Trade Effluent Technician, you'll be exposed to a wide range of opportunities. You'll be supporting colleagues to help create a fair and equitable working environment where everyone can succeed. Your role will be to gain practical experience in the Bip Resources team and in particular Trade Effluent. You'll be developing your knowledge and understanding of Severn Trent and the Wastewater and Trade Effluent processes. All of this will allow you to further develop your data collection, analysis, stakeholder and problem-solving skills so you can communicate effectively to a wide variety of stakeholders., By the end of this programme, you will take up a role as a Trade Effluent Technician. WHAT WILL YOU LEARN

  • You'll learn skills around mitigation of risks from trade effluent and unauthorised discharges through effective management and sampling of allocated customers and catchments.
  • You'll learn to effectively manage and coordinate sample plans for the timely collection of data and trade effluent samples, to enable control and billing of customers within a geographical area.
  • You'll be involved with providing front line assistance working with Infra and Non-Infra Waste teams learning about how to protect the assets and reputation of Severn Trent. Alongside this you'll be exposed to Environmental and Health and Safety of STW personnel, from pollution incidents arising from known Trade Effluent discharges and unknown non-domestic discharges into the sewer system

We want our employees to care and to have a genuine passion for what we do as a business. We need people who want to make a difference in providing a vital service to our customers, now and for the long-term.
  • We'd love you to be someone with…
  • A 'can do' attitude - willing to get stuck in, take accountability for decisions and actions and who takes pride in their work
  • A love of variety in a role and ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced working environment
  • Ability to quickly prioritise tasks and the initiative to dive head-first into problem solving.
  • No two days are the same on the front line and not every day goes to plan, so you'll need to be quick on your feet to respond!
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills and enjoy working with multiple teams
  • Ability to analyse and interpret information and effectively communicate this to different team members and audiences
  • Curiosity to learn quickly in a reactive and dynamic working environment

At Severn Trent, we believe everyone deserves more. More care for the environment, more sustainable initiatives, and more support for the communities we serve. That's why we're on a mission to deliver bigger and better things, and we need passionate apprentices like you to help us achieve our goals.
  • Our people and culture are the heart of our success. We're proud to be in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide for employee engagement. With nearly 10,000 dedicated colleagues, we're looking for more brilliant people eager to turn challenges into opportunities.
