Full Job Description

Job summary: To maintain Windsor Estate tree stock to the highest arboricultural and conservation standards.,

  • To undertake a wide range of arboricultural tasks and operations including:
  • Pruning operations including: crown thinning, crown reduction, target pruning, pollarding and formative pruning of young trees, conservation work involving ancient trees
  • Tree felling including removal of dangerous trees
  • Cobra bracing systems
  • Tree and hedge planting, protection and aftercare
  • To comply with the departmental health and safety systems including:
  • LOLER & PUWER compliance
  • Hazard & Risk Assessment compliance
  • COSHH awareness
  • Manual handling risk assessment awareness
  • Noise and hearing conservation awareness
  • Hand Arm Vibration awareness and management
  • Operate machinery to deliver a range of work programmes;
  • React to and support the team to deal with unforeseen events on the Estate such as fallen trees, storms and wildfires;
  • Support the team to deliver wider Estate objectives;

  • Relevant experience in the theory of modern arboriculture and conservation management of trees and woodlands.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of conservation issues relating to veteran trees and associated habitats.
  • Demonstrable skills in delivering high quality work safely, using a variety of machinery and tools;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Estate and its working land conditions;
  • Previous experience of land or arboriculture-based operations;
  • Demonstrable experience and understanding of land-based health and safety practices;
  • A good communicator, confident, friendly, approachable with the ability to engage with a wide variety of people;
  • Team orientated;
  • Ability to work on own initiative;
  • Adaptable with a flexible approach;
  • Highly organised with attention to detail;
  • Ability to effectively problem solve;
  • Physically fit and able to work in all weathers;

  • 0020-57 Level 2 Aware in Safe Use of Manually Fed Woodchipper
  • 0017-02 Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of a Mobile Elevated Work Platform
  • 0021-05 Level 3 Award in Emergency Treework Operations
  • 0020-13 Level 2 Award in Tree Climbing and Rescue Operations
  • 0021-15 Level 3 Award in Safe Use of a Chainsaw from a MEWP
  • 0021-08 Level 3 Award Aerial Cutting of Trees with a Chainsaw using free-fall techniques
  • 0021-09 Level 3 Award in Aerial Tree Rigging
  • Emergency First Aid + F
  • Full, valid driving licence is essential.
