Full Job Description

Calderdale strives to develop our community to improve the local economy and has pledged to also improve its portfolio of greener buildings towards becoming net Carbon Neutral by 2038.

An opportunity exists for an Architectural Technologist/Architect to join the Council's Corporate Asset and Facilities Management (CAFM) Service and make a positive impact towards delivering these goals. You can also enjoy the challenge of intervening within many significant heritage buildings where design skills are often required to compliment new with historic.

The Council's Corporate Asset and Facilities Management (CAFM) Service is responsible for the Council's large and diverse property portfolio: around 300 buildings including changing rooms, leisure facilities, office buildings and many heritage buildings such as the iconic Halifax Town Hall. The Service's Facilities Management (FM) Technical Team is responsible for all technical resources (internal and external), required to deliver an effective maintenance and development service for this property portfolio.

This is a specialist team with key expertise, which acts as an intelligent client responsible for determining, specifying, commissioning and managing the full range of specialist works required to maintain such a large, diverse and complex portfolio of properties. It is also responsible for monitoring the Council's buildings and drawing up programmes of work across the estate, ensuring that all planned, programmed and reactive repair works are delivered with a customer focus, on time and within budget. The team has oversight of the delivery of capital projects and significant building works, responsible for substantial capital budgets as well as an annual revenue budget of circa £2m.

This is an exciting role, that will allow the right candidate to grow and develop into the role of an Architect. As the post holder learns and develops new experiences they will also progress in the role. This post is responsible for the full range of architectural design work from inception to completion including related duties of tendering work and contract administration. The post holder may also be working with external specialist consultants and project briefing will be required leading to appointment and collaborative working. Project planning is also key including agreeing prioritisation of works with stakeholders within available budgets that meets all statutory requirements; and maximising the performance and longevity of the Council's assets. This post oversees the delivery of capital projects and significant building works.

Applications will be accepted from qualified architects, or those with a relevant degree with a willingness to work towards the Masters qualification.
