Part-Time (21 Hours), Archivist


Salary: £18,000 – £21,000 (pro-rata of the full time salary of £30K - £36K) depending on experience


Initially a 24 Month Fix Term contract

The ideal candidate is a graduate with expertise and experience in the field of archives with the following skills and qualifications:

●       Shows enthusiasm in preserving records for posterity

●       Has excellent writing skills and proficient command of the English language

●       Is able to work on his/her own initiative within pre-established deadlines and parameters.

●       Can prove to be trustworthy and can respect confidentiality in relation to safeguarding, database use, and any other sensitive issues.

●       a logical approach to the work of identification and classification

●       organisational skills and the ability to prioritise your workload

●       experience of using databases or collections management systems

●       general IT skills and an interest in applying digital technology to archiving

●       competence in administrative procedures and project management skills

●       manual dexterity and, in some roles, skills in lifting, carrying and installing/moving archives.

●       Be willing to travel, including abroad.

●       Be willing to follow courses related to Lasallian history.


The successful candidate will be responsible for:

1. Evaluating records for preservation and retention

2. Assessing items that may be fragile and need careful handling, & conservation

3. Organising and cataloguing the collection to ISAD(G) standard

4. Undertaking the digitisation of archives and related material

5. Maintaining user-friendly, computer-aided search systems

6. Identifying ways of protecting and preserving collections

7. Responding to enquiries and supervising access to archival material (?) Is this what you mean?

8. Advising the Trustees on the ongoing organisation and storage of material

9. Working in collaboration with a De La Salle Brother appointed by the Trustees
