Full Job Description

The Area Engineering Manager (AEM) is a senior leadership role that requires extensive cross-discipline knowledge of value realisation of engineering design of systems and plant with a mind set for construction and commissioning in a nuclear environment. The project is currently in pre gate 1 (Strategic Outline Case) there is a requirement to develop a schedule and estimate for the delivery of the Appraise and Select phase up to (Outline Business Case). Upon completion of the SOC the AEM will be required to mobilise a team and deliver the Appraise and Select scope to develop a single preferred solution for the project for OBC. Typical responsibilities:

  • Lead and advise all parties from the project team on the design processes and decision making using their own demonstrable experience in delivery with significant interpersonal skills.
  • Lead the delivery of the engineering & technical plans
  • Interfacing with design teams and stakeholders
  • Managing teams that are remote is likely to be a necessity.
  • Lead & direct multi-disciplinary engineering teams (responsible for; estimating, scheduling, forecasting & production of the agreed design deliverables)
  • Development of safety cases(s) including attendance of HAZOPs, safety assessment & production of substantiation documentation
  • Ensure status and performance of work is reported accurately and in a timely manner
  • Plan for the onward delivery of the project
  • Extensive post-graduate industrial/ practical experience of designated skill set possibly within the nuclear industry but certainly within a related transferrable industry

    Degree qualified and Chartered Engineer (or equivalent)
  • Significant experience working in an engineering design environment
  • Experience working within a regulated and quality assured system (preferably nuclear)
  • Knowledge and understanding of governing laws, regulations and standards for nuclear industry (equivalence from other industries will be considered)
  • Evidence of design capability and leading a multi-discipline team.
  • Ability to work within NEC3 contractual mechanisms and effectively manage milestone delivery and KPIs.
  • Extensive experience developing estimates and schedules for new projects
