Full Job Description

  • Ensure that the contracts under the post holder's control achieve financial objectives

  • as detailed in the Team Plan.
  • To ensure the services are provided in the most efficient and economic way and are

  • operated in line with County Council and Shire Services policies and procedures as
    specified by the Senior Management Team.,
  • To ensure that the catering services are of the highest standard, and to make

  • recommendations to Operations Manager for improvements where appropriate.
  • In line with policy of devolved budgets, to be responsible for budget monitoring of all

  • contracts and to take corrective action where necessary.
  • Ensure good current knowledge of Food Safety Regulations and ensure services are

  • provided in adherence to all relevant health and safety policy and procedures.
  • Overall responsibility for the appraisal and development of the Area Supervisors and

  • the Area Relief Catering Staff.
  • To examine regularly the staffing structure in your area and plan Heads of Kitchen

  • succession, making use of appropriate development and training programmes.
  • To ensure that all new employees are properly inducted. To instruct and participate in

  • training policies and programmes of Shire Services.
  • To develop and maintain sound positive relations with all customers, county council

  • officers, trade union representatives and other stakeholders.
  • To record and manage the absence/attendance of all personnel for whom you are

  • responsible and to ensure that each unit is adequately staffed at all times.
  • To represent Shire Services at Resources Directorate (or countywide) specialist

  • meetings as required.


    A key facet of the role will be to ensure that your individual, team and service targets are met,
    whilst ensuring that your team delivers successfully in supporting the wider corporate and
    service objectives. You will also be expected to ensure the health and safety, as well as the
    wellbeing of employees whilst promoting equality and diversity. The duties detailed within this

    Qualifications OND or equivalent qualification (E) Documents
    (or equivalent skills) CIEH Level 3 in Food Safety in Catering or equivalent (E) Documents

    IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent (D) Documents
    Specialist Knowledge Computer literate (D) A & I
    Experience of financial controls within a catering environment. (E) A & I
    Knowledge of food hygiene and health and safety legislation. (E) A & I
    Previous experience in a supervisory role (E) A & I
    Skills Knowledge of relevant legislation and able to anticipate and plan for future
    changes in legislation (D) A & I
    Able to work effectively with colleagues from a range of backgrounds (E) A & I

    Salary Range: £32,910- £36,922 per annum for 37 hpw (as at 1 April 2021)
    Hours: Full Time 37 hours
    Reports to and supports: Operations Manager
    Direct roles responsible for: A team of area supervisors and relief area catering
    staff
    Financial responsibility: Responsible for achieving financial targets within
    the designated area of responsibility.
    Customer & Service user base: Provision of catering services to schools and other
    customers across Shropshire, Worcester and
    Hereford.

    Main Purpose of Post
    The postholder will hold responsibility for managing the day to day requirements for the
    catering contracts within their area of responsibility, ensuring the service is provided
    according to requirements and financial targets are achieved. This will include managing a
    team of operational and relief staff, including training and development needs.
