Full Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Area Officer to join our Highway Operations Team. The Highway Operations team are responsible for inspections and arranging minor repairs to keep our roads in a safe condition.

In this role, you will; Act as the primary contact for highway related enquires and respond to customer enquiries. You will complete inspections of the road network and arrange essential repairs to ensure the safety of our road users. You will also form part of an out of hours service and will be required to be a part of an on-call rota for which additional payments will be made., Responding to customer enquiries.
Completing planned highway inspections.
Arranging minor repairs.
Monitoring quality of contractor's work.
Being part of an on-call team to respond to out of hours highway emergencies.

Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role. A suitable vehicle will be provided.

This position is currently based at our Castlewood offices in Clevedon. Please be advised that this office will be closed by 2025. Consultation is currently underway to determine the new location for colleagues based in Castlewood. This will be at Weston-super-Mare or within North Somerset.

0-1 day in the office
Includes field workers who primarily work remotely.
Comes into the office for meetings or focused work. Virtual connections with the team are essential, with portable technology supporting work on the go.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about customer service and who possesses the following skills and experience, Proven Organisational and Oral and Written Communication Skills
Vocational qualification or experience to level 3 or 4 relevant to the service, or equivalent.
Able to work with a range of customers and demonstrate commitment to customer care
Ability to travel around the district on a daily basis

Desirable Criteria:
A qualification to HNC standard in a related discipline would be an advantage
City & Guilds supervisor accreditation in New Roads and Street Works Act 1991
Be a member of, or working towards full membership of a related professional institution or body, Disability Confident
