Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for an Area Quality Manager to join our Regional team to work in the Central and South of England and Wales. Role Purpose

  • Work across an area (Delivery Unit) or on a major project to support the operations teams to consistently deliver to the required quality - to achieve 'defect free delivery' and 'right first time'. Also, to undertake operational inspections and audits for the Business Unit to check compliance with drawings, specifications, procedures and good practice and identify opportunities for improvement;
  • To be the Delivery Unit (or project) expert practitioner to provide 'hands on' specialist support and be part of the England & Wales network of Quality Managers to drive improvements.
  • The Manager will be expected to spend the majority of their time out on projects supporting delivery teams.
  • A lot of travel is required across the South of England and Wales.
  • What you'll be doing As an Area Quality Manager you will be:
  • Working with our teams from preconstruction through construction and into post-construction to help us deliver defect free, high quality projects;
  • Supporting the business in the implementation of our quality systems and processes across our projects;
  • Ensuring that we continually drive improvement in quality by promoting best practice and sharing lessons to ensure we avoid repetition of poor installations and material selections;
  • Provide our project teams with expertise on buildability or seek others who can assist in the pursuit of better material selections, improved detailing and processes that increase quality;
  • Support and champion the integration of Modern Methods of Construction and off-site manufacture to drive high quality installations on our sites.

    Essential Personal Qualities and Experience:
  • A background in Civils;
  • Previous experience of leading a Quality Team/Project;
  • Confident in working with Senior Management and able to challenge existing ways of working to support business improvement;
  • Can work within a multi-discipline team;
  • Able to command respect across the business;
  • Is good at building relationships and can influence effectively.
