Full Job Description

An Individual Education and Resettlement Officer (IERO) primarily provides resettlement advice and guidance to Service Personnel; this is essential to ensure their smooth transition from a career in the Armed Forces to civilian life. The second aspect of the IERO role is the responsibility for providing Personal Development (PD) information to Soldiers and Officers throughout their careers by providing advice and guidance on both internal and external learning opportunities and the availability of funding to support individual learning plans. The role involves a significant amount of interaction, including conducting briefs and delivering training. Travel may sometimes be necessary to support or attend briefs or training and may re-quire overnight stays.

Resettlement Function - Provide 'second line' resettlement support to Service Personnel (after first line which is provided within their own unit):

Provide resettlement advice in accordance with policy to all military personnel who are leaving the Services.
Provide advice on retention opportunities, including transfers.
Provide support to first line resettlement staff. This includes the planning and delivery of unit Resettlement Information Staff (RIS) training- a 2-day course, run as required annually by each AEC Group.
Support other AEC staff in the performance of any resettlement duties they carry out.
Ensure effective administration, authorisation and recording of resettlement activities.
Collaborate with external and internal agencies involved in the resettlement process, including Career Transition Partnership, Enhanced Learning Credit Administration Service, the Defence Transition Service, Defence Business Service Veterans Welfare Service and other supporting agencies.
Personal Development (PD). Provide support in accordance with Ministry of Defence and Government policy:
Focal point for PD of Service personnel. This includes assessing and monitoring the overall need and demand for personal development and reporting it through your chain of command.
Authorise claims for Ministry of Defence funding schemes (incl Standard Learning Credits and Enhanced Learning Credit applications).
Under the direction of the OC, support Learning Development Officers and other AEC staff in their personal development function.
In conjunction with the military staff at the AEC, provide PD advice and guidance to individuals, including identifying personal development goals and advice on PD opportunities available to meet individuals' goals, including vocational, academic, accreditation and funding opportunities.
Promote PD within our area of responsibility, as directed by the OC, through briefing and advising unit staff, the chain of command and other AES staff and ensuring effective marketing and communication of PD opportunities.
Engage with Units in the AEC Groups area of responsibility, to develop wider understanding of re-settlement and individual education opportunities and processes.
Be prepared to act as a focal point for a specific aspect of PD for the Army-wide AES community, as agreed through the chain of command.
