Full Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic, practical and versatile colleague to assist staff and pupils in our vibrant Art department. The Art department serves the whole school community and teaches pupils in year 3 through to year 13., + Advising the Head of Art on stock levels, placing orders as necessary and checking materials
+ Helping members of the department with preparing and setting out materials and equipment prior to the start of lessons
+ Acting as a classroom assistant in Art lessons, as required
+ Keeping the storerooms stocked and tidy
+ Displaying work around both the junior and senior schools, helping with displays for open days, examination moderation, and other events and exhibitions
+ Supporting the Head of Art and members of teaching staff to ensure the smooth-running of the Art department, and the implementation of health and safety procedures
+ Maintaining machinery, including the kiln and printing presses
+ Assisting with the set up and take down for life drawing sessions and A level gallery visit trips, if and when required
+ Any other reasonable task, as requested by the Head of Art or the senior management team

There are no specific technical skills that the candidate must possess as a prerequisite for this post as required training will be provided. However, a background in the visual arts and an enthusiasm for making objects are essential, as is a firm understanding of the creative process. It is also expected that the successful applicant will have good organisational abilities, and be adaptable, flexible and willing to learn., + Educated to degree level, preferably in the visual arts
+ Ability to work well within a team and to have strong communication skills
+ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and to meet the demands of Art education across the key stages
+ A background working in education is not necessary, however the successful candidate should show a desire and willingness to work with young people of all ages
+ No specific practical skills are required, however it would be assumed that the successful candidate would have some practical experience in creating art or craft, and an appreciation of what such work entails
+ A background/specialism in ceramics would be advantageous
It is expected that the successful candidate will be enthusiastic about working in a busy and stimulating environment, and will enjoy helping teaching staff with a wide variety of tasks. This is a job which requires someone capable of working proactively and without close supervision; somebody who, once acquainted with the department, will readily show initiative to see what is required and act accordingly.
