Full Job Description

National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) is navigating through an exciting time as we evolve to meet net-zero targets for 2050. You'll be operating at the heart of the network to meet the business aspirations of Net Zero and the delivery of the Great Grid Upgrade. Location - Flexible with hybrid working a mix of home, office and site.

As an Asset Management Engineer in the Substation HV plant team, you'll be responsible for leading the asset management lifecycle of Gas-insulated Substations and associated equipment. Focussing on transmission level voltage equipment between 400kV and 33kV.

You'll be engaged throughout the entire lifecycle of specific asset categories, from creating and amending policies, procedures, and technical guidance to supporting the development of technical strategies and intervention strategies for our HV plant portfolio. You will contribute to innovation opportunities, support virtual team collaboration, and engage in type registration activities with minimal supervision.

Additionally, you will support external engagements, regulatory and energy industry understanding, and represent National Grid on national and international committees to influence policy and standards. Collaboration and support for team members are essential aspects of this role.

You will be a self-starter who is eager to develop their business and technical skills as well as the following:

  • Essential - Numerate degree, or equivalent experience and membership or the ability to be a member of relevant professional body.

  • Experience of specification, design, development, maintenance and/or lifetime management of transmission & distribution gas-insulated substations and their associated equipment.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles of Asset Management.

  • Ability to thrive when working to challenging deadlines.

  • Able to communicate technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both verbally and in writing.

    A competitive salary of £49,310 - £62,399 pa

  • £3,000 p.a. market supplement (paid monthly).
