Role Overview
Working within a fast-moving operational environment, the Assistant Accountant supports the Senior Accountants and the wider department in the provision of financial stewardship and business management support to efficiently and effectively deliver the Police & Crime Commissioner's and Chief Constable's priorities.
Within an established, well regarded and dynamic Finance team, the post will line manage junior staff to enhance their skills and knowledge, maintain strong financial accounting controls and year end accounts procedures, and seek to continuously improve systems/processes. As a Finance Business Partner, the Assistant Accountant is the key link between Finance and the wider force, working closely with other departments. The Assistant Accountant will seek to improve financial management across the whole of Gwent Police; work closely with officers and staff at all levels to increase their understanding of budgetary control; and provide advice and guidance on the financial impacts of ongoing change management projects.
The vacancy is advertised as a permanent role within the Financial Accounts function, working alongside other Assistant Accountants in the same function.
A part qualified CCAB accountant, the successful applicant will be a good communicator. They will have a proven record of providing financial management support to stakeholders, financial accounting, supervision of junior staff, and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues., Disability Confident
