Full Job Description

We aim to appoint people to these two posts who can make a strong contribution to both our research and our teaching, and who will make the most of the opportunities provided by our lively and vibrant departmental culture.

About the Department

The Warwick Mathematics Institute is internationally recognised for its research and our best undergraduates are a match for those at any other UK university. We run a wide range of weekly seminar series, and many workshops and conferences, for which our Mathematics Research Centre provides organisational support.

A list of our staff and their research interests can be found at https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/maths/research/researchers

and you can see our undergraduate module pages at

https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/maths/currentstudents/ughandbook

The department encourages the career advancement and promotion of all its staff, supporting promotion from Associate Professor to Reader and subsequently Full Professor in the same way that Assistant Professors are guided through the probationary process.

We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment, and we actively encourage applications from groups that are under-represented in UK mathematics. In particular, we are working hard towards improving our gender balance: we currently hold a Bronze Athena Swan award and our energetic Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion committee plays a significant role in shaping departmental policy.

We are an internationally diverse department. For those eligible, the University offers relocation and Immigration Support Scheme packages to assist with costs of relocating and any associated visa applications and HIS (health) surcharge fees.,

  • Your cover letter (no longer than two pages) should start with a brief indication of your research field in order to assist the shortlisting process (e.g. "Algebra - Algebraic groups, Lie algebras, groups of Lie type"; "Fluid Dynamics - computational modelling; free surface flows"). This is also the place to give a brief summary of your area of research, your research achievements to date, and how you plan to develop your research in the future. We value and respect diverse gender identities and expressions, and encourage you to share your preferred personal pronouns (e.g. he/him, she/her, they/them) with us in this letter too.

  • If you are interested only in an Associate Professorship, please make this clear in your covering letter.

You should arrange for your three referees to send their letters of recommendation directly to mathematicsPA@warwick.ac.uk (quoting the post reference number in the subject line of their email) before the closing date. These letters form an important part of our shortlisting process; please note that it is your responsibility to ensure that these referees have provided their letters to us by deadline.

Please see here for guidance on writing a cover letter. We highly recommend using individual criteria as headers and giving examples below, though you are free to format the letter as you wish.

To streamline our hiring processes, we can only accept applications via our official website, warwick-careers.tal.net.

All applicants should hold a PhD and have already demonstrated excellence and independence in research and an ability to teach effectively.
