Full Job Description
The Headteacher, Governors, and children at Wood Lane Primary School are looking to appoint a school Caretaker who is enthusiastic, energetic and who will take pride in our wonderful school. This is an excellent opportunity for an outstanding person with the necessary expertise and initiative to deal with the challenges of managing and maintaining the school premises. The Caretaker will supervise the small cleaning team, and the role will include an element of cleaning and maintaining the high standards we have come to appreciate as paramount. It will also involve meeting the health and safety requirements of the school, by completing the necessary safety checks. The post is a 15 hours per week contract, with hours to be negotiated and agreed upon every week, in line with the need of the school., We are looking for someone who can recognise the daily repairs we inevitably encounter, liaise with suppliers, monitor health and safety standards, undertake training where necessary and still have time to chat with the children! - Opening and closing of school premises (where requested)
- Ensure that buildings and the site are secure, including during out of school hours and taking remedial action if required
- Act as a designated key holder Operate and regularly check systems such as heating, cooling, lighting and security (including alarms)
- Daily cleaning of the site including classrooms, toilets, offices, shared spaces (such as emptying bins/ recycling boxes, rubbish after events)
- Undertake minor repairs (i.e. not requiring qualified craftsperson) and maintenance of the buildings and site
- Undertake general portage duties, including moving furniture and equipment within the school
- Undertake regular health and safety checks of buildings, grounds, fixtures and fittings, (including compliance with fire safety regulations) and equipment, in line with other schedules.
- Liaising with contractors and checking their documentation when working onsite.
We are looking for a self-motivated, friendly approachable person with a 'can do' attitude and preferably previous experience in a similar role, to start as soon as possible. Applicants with electrical, plumbing and/or joinery skills with knowledge of health and safety legislation will be particularly welcomed., - Knowledge and expertise in minor maintenance and repair
- Knowledge / skills in facilities equivalent to current national qualifications level 2
- A good level of education: GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English The successful applicant will have
- The ability to multi-task and work well as part of a team.
- Proven and demonstrable experience of working in a similar role A willingness to deliver first aid is advantageous.
Salary (FTE): £25,183 Actual Salary: £10,206 You would also be required to secure the school building after school events which may be in the evening and at weekends and take annual holiday entitlement during school holidays and also be the lead for alarm call-outs.
