Full Job Description

The role As an Assistant Chief Engineer - Propulsion, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary where you will support with the improvement of the delivery of submarine engineering projects. You'll be an integral part of the submarine engineering team and will work closely with industrial partners and our MoD customer. Day to day, you'll be responsible for providing technical oversight and support to the teams who are undertaking maintenance activities associated with the propulsion systems during deep maintenance:

  • Understand the design intent and functional requirements to ensure they are met through 'line of sight' from the Design Authority Requirement (DAR), execution, testing and acceptance.
  • Agree appropriate acceptance criteria, where specifications are obsolete or invalid in the circumstances or unclear.
  • Adopt a forward-looking view of technical risks, whilst proposing and actioning mitigations utilising Suitably Qualified Experienced Person (SQEP) Teams.
  • Hold technical reviews prior to major evolutions or areas of engineering or technical risk.
  • Support incremental assurance reviews.
  • This role is full time, 35 hours per week and will be based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard with hybrid working from home arrangements.

  • Demonstrable experience in submarine engineering, specifically within the field of nuclear engineering.
  • Qualifications for the Assistant Chief Engineer - Propulsion:
  • Level six qualification in Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer
  • Security Clearance The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) / Developed Vetting (DV) / Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
