Are you good at spinning plates? It's not something you see very often on TV these days, but figuratively, it is a very useful skill, one of which is vital if your goal is to keep nuclear power stations operating safely, contributing to the UK's Net Zero carbon target, or to help prepare them for decommissioning. The UK's five operating stations deliver 16% of the UK's power, and it takes a large team delivering 100's of projects to enable these stations to continue generating as well as defuel the three stations that have ceased operation - and that's a lot of plates. And this is where you come in If you're familiar with project delivery, you'll know that they have plenty of moving parts and complexity, which is why you'll be working alongside our Subject Matter Experts, Operations Managers and with our Framework Service team too. People are at the heart of everything we do Centre to the success of the role will be your people skills, building effective relationships and interacting with multiple internal and external stakeholders in multiple locations. You'll also work closely with colleagues to support activities that offer the best service to the client. Through your interactions, you'll be able to gather useful intelligence on client needs and work with the team to deliver innovative solutions. You'll utilise your strong communication and engagement skills to achieve client, people and business outcomes, working with your team and peers that are based in different locations across the UK. As well as focusing on the support to this framework, you'll get involved in other aspects of our high-performing business. We are recruiting for an Assistant Cost Engineer to join our Nuclear Power Engineering and Technical Services team supporting our key client EDF Energy Nuclear Generation with their nuclear fleet in the UK. This is a key role within our project and engineering portfolio which is spread across our UK network at all UK sites and stations. You will be supported and mentored by experienced quality engineering management professionals and given the training and opportunities you need to develop and expand your management and leadership skills with larger and more complex projects. You will be part of a large client-led team at EDFs Gloucester Business Park location and will be accountable to the client Project Manager, Programme Manager and/or Construction Manager.

  • Assistant Cost Engineers are accountable to the client Project Controls Group Head, PPM and/or Operations Manager and are responsible for providing cost management support to the EDF Nuclear Generation work portfolio and will monitor, control and forecast the costs during the Project lifecycle. This role has no direct reports.
  • In this role you will report to the Operations Manager, but be accountable for project delivery directly to the client.

    Everyone working in our team will have a proven track record of working within highly regulated environments with high safety standards and culture.
  • Good communication and organisational skills are a must with the ability to develop relationships and maintain effective networks and be results-focused tempered with a team-centred approach.
  • Minimum of HNC/HND ideally in a cost related discipline or relevant experience and MACostE is desirable.
  • Breadth of experience across whole project and programme lifecycle. (e.g. Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation/Commissioning processes).
  • Good working knowledge of financial systems.
  • Understand the inter-relationship between time cost and commercial aspects of the project life cycle.
  • Working knowledge of latest version of Primavera.
  • Experienced in the use of SAP Finance and Project modules.
  • The ability to reconcile cost information as it applies to the programmes of work.
  • Proficient in the use of estimating, scheduling, programming and risk tools.
  • Proficient in the use of Earned Value Analysis.
  • Ability to communicate well at all levels of management and can produce monthly reports, to an agreed reporting cycle, through the provision of intelligent information and analysis.
