Full Job Description
This post is an integral part of the UWTSD academic quality and enhancement management team and will work across all IICL campuses. The post holder will support the IICL Senior Management team and provide leadership in particular within the areas of academic quality assurance and enhancement of the student learning experience. The post holder will provide leadership and steer on behalf of the IICL on the following areas in collaboration with the relevant professional services:
- Curriculum development, learning and teaching enhancement, and quality assurance of all IICL provision
- Compliance with regulatory requirements
- Assessment, External Examiners and Examination Boards;
- Academic Success;
- Student Representation and Student Voice;
- Enhancement of the student learning experience;
- Delivering staff development sessions on regulations and QA processes;
- Oversight of academic student cases, such as extenuating circumstances, academic misconduct and complaints and appeals;
- The development of central regulations, policy and procedures. Main duties will include:
- Provide leadership within IICL on quality assurance of all academic issues
- Support and contribute to the work of the University's professional departments, in particular the Academic Services and Student Services
- Work closely with the management team of other relevant Institute(s) to ensure equivalence and consistency in the implementation of quality assurance procedures and the academic regulatory framework for provision leading to the same award title
- Contribute effectively to the efficient running of the IICL at strategic, operational and financial levels
- Support the Provost in developing and delivering the IICL's Business Plan
- Represent IICL on University committees as appropriate
- Lead on the induction and general development of academic and related staff within the IICL
- Line manage Academic and Quality support staff and be an exemplar
- Foster best possible working relationships with UWTSD Institutes and professional departments
- Undertake some teaching / research supervision responsibilities, as required
- Lead on a number of key strategic initiatives including but not limited to: - The National Student Survey (NSS), Graduate Outcomes survey and other national surveys - Processes and procedures for ensuring IICL compliance with central University regulations
- PhD (or equivalent).
- Masters level qualification.
- Demonstrable knowledge of academic teaching practice and principles.
- Proven management experience within a Higher Education (HE) or similar professional context.
- Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to balance conflicting and complex strategic objectives, time and risk management.
- Evidence and experience of working across interdisciplinary external and internal teams.
- Evidence of successfully operating within an Academic Quality framework and with the requirements of external bodies such as the QAA and/or other professional, regulatory and statutory bodies.
- Knowledge and experience of analysing key performance metrics.
- Evidence of working in a multicultural environment at academic and / or management level.
- Demonstrate outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and provide evidence of building and sustaining effective working relationships.
- Ability to work flexibly, including some evenings and weekends, and travel between campuses and locations when required.
The Institute of Inner-City Learning (IICL) is one of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David's (UWTSD's) four Institutes with campuses in Birmingham and London, with plans for further expansion to other UK cities. The IICL operates a multiple intake model of currently 3 intakes per campus, per annum, and delivers continuous learning, teaching and recruitment cycles for 51 weeks of the year (3 x 17 weeks). The IICL operates in an intensely competitive inner-city and culturally diverse HE environment and currently has approx. 6000+ non-residential students on programmes ranging from level 4 to level 8, delivered on weekdays and weekends. We are looking for an Assistant Dean (Quality and Enhancement) to join IICL on a Full-time, Permanent basis, working 37 hours per week. - Generous annual leave entitlement of 35 days' annual leave per year, plus 8 bank holidays and 4 University closure days
