Full Job Description
To work in partnership with the Divisional Director of Midwifery and Nursing and to provide professional and operational leadership and management of the services, delivering a safe quality service while meeting financial targets. To provide expert advice within the maternity service in the absence of the Divisional Director of Midwifery and Chief Nurse regarding professional midwifery issues. The post holder will be the designated deputy to the Divisional Director of Midwifery (and Nursing), with delegated authority in their absence. They will deputise at a local, system, regional, and national meeting as and when service requirements demand. They will provide managerial and professional responsibility being accountable for the operational management of a high quality, patient centred maternity and Neonatal service. This will meet the need of the patient and families ensuring that safe standards of midwifery and neonatal care are of the highest quality to deliver on the trust clinical governance standards. They will work closely and autonomously with the Clinical Directors, Directorate Business Managers and Matrons in the co-ordination and delivery of services in accordance with National and Trust Health Strategies, including the development of innovative strategies for midwifery and nursing to enable a strong and empowered workforce. Develop, maintain and sustain communication with individuals and teams on complex matters, issues and ideas/and or in complex situations. Ensure safe standards of maternity and Neonatal care are delivered to a high quality ensuring that the maternity and Neonatal governance agendas and processes are met and reflected through the trust board assurance framework Develop oneself and others in areas of practice and specialty. Maintain and develop an environment and culture that improves health, safety and security. Work in partnership with others to develop, take forward. lead and evaluate direction, for a range of policies, service developments and strategies for the whole group. Develop a culture that improves quality, reduces harm promoting learning and sharing. Promote equality and value diversity widely. Coordinate, monitor and review the use of financial resources including transformational changes. Plan, coordinate and monitor the delivery of services, maternity/ Neonatal work streams and / or other continuous improvement projects. Plan, develop, monitor and review the recruitment, deployment and management of people for the Division. Accountable for the delivery of clinical care for the whole of midwifery service for the Division. Facilitate the development of capacity and capability where as a consistent approach.
