Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Directorate Manager within the Medicine & Urgent Care Division. The post holder will work closely with the Associate Directorate Manager for Medical Resourcing, Director for Medical Education, and other medical/clinical leads across the Medical and Urgent Care Division. The post holder will support the Deputy Divisional Director of Operations, Assistant Director of Finance, Directorate Manager, Deputy Directorate Managers and Assistant Directorate Managers in the delivery of operational activities. The post holder will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing a systematic approach to the delivery and management of operational medical workforce matters across Medicine and Urgent Care. This will require establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with key clinical and managerial staff within the care group. The post holder will have a breadth of medical workforce knowledge and experience in creating efficient and compliant rotas, rostering, resourcing, and trainee safe working. This post holder will line manage rota co-ordinators and be responsible for the day-to-day management of the care group medical staffing rotas, ensuring the appropriate levels of staff and clinical safety are always maintained. This also includes, ensuring that resident Doctors are supported, and clinical service needs maintained within a governed financial plan.,

  • The post holder will manage a complete medical staffing establishment and associated rotas across the Medical and Urgent Care Group directly line managing the medical rota co-ordinators, ensuring they are fully supported in their role.
  • Effective running of the clinical rotas adhering to full compliance.
  • To plan rotas in advance at each level.
  • Ensure full engagement of clinical and managerial leads in all specialties.
  • To lead on key dates of doctor changeover to ensure smooth transition of new starters/rotational placements throughout each year.
  • Working with the clinical teams, Medical HR team to design junior doctor rotas that meet service need and promote good working with the junior doctor workforce.
  • Ensure operational representation at daily morning medical handover and escalate and action appropriate solution for Doctors sickness absence or unavailability.
  • Ensuring that sickness, annual and study leave requests are recorded on all necessary systems once approved, and find a solution for any rota gaps.
  • Liaising with Consultant leads in Medical Education and senior management team on any operational issues relating to rotas and staffing.
  • Have excellent communication skills and the ability to negotiate and build relationships with the clinical and managerial teams across the hospital.
  • Support service change (rota patterns and ward based allocations) and identify areas for improvement using their initiative, skills and experience.
