Full Job Description

The Trustees are seeking to appoint an Assistant Head of Year (AHOY) as soon as possible to provide a complementary service to existing teachers and pastoral staff within the School. The post will address the needs of children, supporting them in overcoming barriers to learning and enabling them to achieve their full potential, thereby supporting the School to raise standards of achievement, improvement, attendance and raise standards of behaviour.

The successful candidate needs to be proactive, approachable and a good listener and act as a positive role model to students. A good standard of Education (Level 3) together with good numeracy and literacy skills (GCSE English and Maths or equivalent) are required and at least 2 years' experience of working with secondary school students is desirable. You will be a joining a successful pastoral and behaviour team which will expand further as the school grows.

BCAT is a small, but highly ambitious Academy Trust consisting of 3 secondary schools in Kent, Barton Court Grammar School, The Charles Dickens School and the new free school, Barton Manor School.
Barton Court Grammar School (BCGS) is a state, selective, co-educational school with a strong reputation for its high academic standards and its caring and supportive ethos. The School is an accredited 'Advanced Thinking School' and is also the lead school of Barton Court Academy Trust (BCAT). The Charles Dickens School (CDS), a state, non-selective, co-educational secondary school joined BCAT on 1 March 2017 and Barton Manor School (BMS), our free school, which is also a non-selective co-educational secondary school opened in September 2022 to Year 7 and as the school grows now has Y7, Y8 and Y9 from September 2024.

OUR SCHOOL
Barton Manor School, is a non-selective 11-18 school located in Canterbury, a 5 minute walk from Barton Court Grammar School. The School is in its third year of opening, with students in Y7, Y8 and Y9 only, and when full it will have a shared Sixth Form provision with Barton Court Grammar School providing a wide-range of vocational and academic courses. We have a vision and a determination to provide our community with an excellent school and we are making great strides towards this. This is a term time only role with two staff development days.
Hours are 37 per week, 08.00 - 16.00 Mon - Thurs, 08.00 - 15.30 Fri (to include 30 minutes unpaid lunch break)
