Full Job Description

  • You will manage a diverse caseload of general litigation matters including commercial and residential property disputes, contract, injunctions and enforcement cases.
  • Provision of strategic and tactical advice, representing the council in complex and sensitive cases.
  • Staying up to date with court rules, demonstrating strong file management and an ability to work efficiently.
  • You'll be instrumental in guiding our approach to legal challenges, working closely with officers at all levels, and ensuring that Southwark remains a leader in public service law.

We are looking for a driven and dynamic Assistant Lawyer to join our In-House Litigation Team, providing essential services to Southwark Council's directorates. If you are seeking varied, challenging, and meaningful work in a fast-paced legal environment, this is the role for you, We warmly welcome applications from qualified lawyers with relevant litigation experience and a solid understanding of, or exposure to, public sector work, even if your background is from another legal sector., Have strong file management skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload.
  • Be confident in both written and verbal communication, and have a collaborative work ethic
  • Have a deep understanding of court processes and procedures, with the ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure.
  • Have advocacy skills and a desire to represent the council in court. Quickly adapt to unfamiliar legal areas, becoming proficient with minimal supervision.
  • Have a knowledge of local government law which will provide a strong foundation for your work, allowing you to contribute effectively to the council's goals.
  • This role offers flexible home working blended with travel into our London Bridge HQ.
