Full Job Description

Learning Services Worcestershire is seeking dedicated and passionate Assistant Tutors to join our teams at the Fairfield Learning Centre, Worcester and Willow Trees Community Centre, Redditch. We are a key component of the Young Adult Learning programmes delivered in Worcestershire, providing alternative pathways for learners who are not yet ready to enter college or apprenticeships. We support learners who have experienced educational disruptions or struggled to find the right learning environment, enabling them to thrive and achieve their goals. As an Assistant Tutor, you will work closely with lead Tutors to provide high-quality classroom support to our learners. These learners come from various backgrounds and have diverse needs, ranging from those who have experienced the care system to individuals with low-level additional needs supported through an Education and Health Care Plan. Your role will be essential in helping these learners develop the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in their learning programmes. Indicative responsibilities:

  • Support Lead Tutors in the delivery of structured learning sessions, ensuring a responsive approach to individual and group activities
  • Assist in the delivery of various curriculum areas, including Health and Social Care, Education, Employability, English & Maths (Functional Skills/GCSE), Hair and Beauty, and wellbeing and pastoral activity
  • Build positive relationships with learners, providing guidance and support based on their unique needs and circumstances.
  • Contribute to collaborative activity with other council teams and referral agencies to ensure effective coordination of support services.
  • Support the team to track learner attendance and monitor progress across all components of their learning programme.
  • Work closely with the Young Adult team to implement the overall learning plan for each learner.

    Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate well to young learners.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by learners who have experienced educational disruptions or have additional needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and adapt to changing needs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience working with young people in a similar capacity, such as in youth work or coaching environments.
  • Relevant qualifications or experience in one or more of the subject areas being taught.
