Full Job Description

We are currently seeking an Assistant Librarian & Assistant Head of Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) to start as soon as possible.Detail The Assistant Librarian/Assistant Head of EPQ is part of a small team responsible for the operation of the library and for running the EPQ programme. As well as traditional library tasks, the role involves helping to manage the EPQ programme and supervising an EPQ group through the entire process. This is an exciting opportunity for a champion of reading to work in a sector-leading school library and to assist ambitious young people in taking their first steps in academic research. This role would suit an organised, conscientious people-person who loves books and relishes the joys and challenges of independent research., Summary of Library duties, which will include but are not limited to:

  • Supervising the Library and standing in for the Head of the Library in her absence;
  • Helping organise and run activities and lunchtime clubs in the library;
  • Supporting reading for pleasure and recommending books for both staff and pupils;
  • Supporting participation in the Southern Schools Book Award (SSBA) with the Year 9 students;
  • Assisting with the creation of display and marketing material;
  • Helping to organise events, including the SSBA Presentation Evening;
  • Helping to co-ordinate the library's social media presence, including the weekly newsletter;
  • Supporting the development of information literacy within the school;
  • Cataloguing, processing and circulating resources using the Library Management System;
  • Demonstrating Library's resources and using them to assist pupils seeking information;
  • Maintaining the Library as a tidy, accessible and vibrant space;
  • Managing pupils using the library;
  • Assisting with Library administrative tasks;
  • Other library tasks and duties as may reasonably be required by the Head of the Library.
  • Summary of EPQ duties, which will include but are not limited to:
  • Helping to oversee the EPQ programme including any administration involved;
  • Supporting the team of EPQ supervisors including meeting with designated EPQ supervisors on a fortnightly basis;
  • Supervising your own EPQ group including delivering the taught skills programme and marking the projects;
  • Disseminating a weekly email to EPQ supervisors;
  • Helping to organize the presentation afternoon;
  • Helping to internally moderate EPQ projects.
