This is an exciting opportunity for an economics undergraduate with keen analytic and mathematical skills to join an economic research team at one of Europe's largest asset managers. Working directly with the Head of Macroeconomics, this role will involve work primarily on the US and UK economies, including analysing how economies will emerge from a period of high inflation and softening activity and the financial market implications of ongoing support from authorities. This fast-moving role will give valuable experience of working in a global economics team. As well as being based in London's newest office space. 1. Description of the department Macroeconomic Research provides macroeconomic and market advice to AXA. The Macroeconomic Research team is responsible for delivering macroeconomic advice, forecasts and research on global market moving events. 2. The main responsibilities of the role :
  • You will provide research assistance and analytical support to the Macroeconomic Research team, primarily to the London-based Head of Macroeconomics and Chief Economist. The breadth of work can be large, ranging from presentation production to quantitative research. Focus will largely be on the US and UK.
  • The role will include a degree of report and powerpoint preparation; financial model upkeep, evaluation and creation; and real-time reaction to current events.
  • You will be involved in quantitative research topics and could be involved in co-authoring research papers and communicating the findings of research throughout the business. The rôle will provide opportunity to apply economic thinking to specfic market developments and to learn about practical implications of economic forecasting.

    12-month undergraduate placement as part of integrated degree course.
  • Undergraduate student working towards Economics degree. Similar degrees with financial/maths co-disciplines will also be considered.
  • Advanced experience with Excel & Power Point is essential.
  • Good communication skills.
  • An enthusiasm to apply basic economic concepts to real world and market situations. A desire to build knowledge in different areas.
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative team as well as perform independently in a detail-oriented, methodical manner and ability to work to deadlines important.
  • Useful to have experience with Eviews. Knowledge of R would be an advantage.
  • Written and spoken English fluency essential, French would be an advantage
