Full Job Description
This is a management accountant role responsible for key month end activities. These include ensuring data accuracy and providing insight which support the team to produce high quality financial reports. The role supports a key business area and will be involved in a varied and interesting budget portfolio., Providing high quality financial reports and insightful management information, working closely with the Management Accountant Lead (SEO) and the wider Financial Management Team to interpret and discuss the financial position and outlook with key stakeholders.
+ Working with Finance Business Partners to share business intelligence, actively identifying issues, participating in discussions and ensuring issues are resolved in a timely manner.
+ Ensure the integrity of transactions on financial systems, ensuring good controls and checks are in place to maintain accuracy.
+ Take ownership of the specialist accounting areas that sit within the teams portfolio, especially workplace accrual calculations
+ Undertake all month end activities, including preparing journals, budget profiling and accurate forecasting, ensure all accounting entries are complete and supported by a full audit trail of the supporting evidence.
+ Provide explanations for significant changes in forecast and actuals and providing updates on issues and risks to senior managers.
+ Engage with all change and improvement activities, taking the initiative to ensure a high-quality service and responding to ad hoc queries, analysis and activities that emerge., We'll assess you against these behaviours during the selection process:

This role is being advertised on a permanent basis. If preferable, Loan or Secondment options will also be available for existing Civil Servants (Loan) and applicants from accredited NDPBs or any other employer (Secondment). Prior agreement to be released on a loan basis must be obtained before commencing the application process. New Entrants to the Civil Service
New entrants appointed in grades AA to G6 will receive DHSCs modernised terms and conditions:
+ Annual Leave: 25 days on entry rising by one day for each completed year of service to a maximum of 30 days and pro-rata for part-time staff
+ Privilege Leave: 1 day - for the Kings birthday
+ Hours of Work: 37 hours (net) per week for full time staff in all geographical locations, including London and pro rata for part-time staff
+ Occupational Sick Pay (OSP): one month full pay/one month half pay on entry, rising by one month for each completed year of service to a maximum of five months full pay and five months half pay
+ Mobility: Mobility clause in contracts allow staff to be mobile across the Civil Service
+ Probation: 6 month probation period
Existing Civil Service staff transferring from another Government department, on either level transfer or promotion
All staff moving to DHSC will transfer onto DHSCs modernised terms and conditions (as outlined above).
Existing DHSC staff, appointed on promotion
If DHSCs modernised terms and conditions are already held, the employee will retain those terms and conditions. If DHSCs pre-modernised terms and conditions are held, the employee will transfer onto DHSCs modernised terms and conditions (as outlined above).

Part-qualified CCAB, CIMA or equivalent accountant or AAT qualified or have experience of working in a finance environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with staff and stakeholders at all levels
Develop collaborative relationships with key stakeholders across the organisation to ensure the delivery of high-quality outputs.
Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel to Intermediate level, experience of working with large volumes of information to provide analysis and insights that can inform decision making
Practical experience of working in a finance environment, for example financial accounting or management accounting.
Good organisational skills and a proven ability to plan and manage competing priorities
