Full Job Description

We are looking for an excellent preacher in the High Church tradition, who will exercise the cure of souls as comfortably in the pulpit, the pub, or at the sick bed. With a steadily increasing number of adult confirmations, he or she must be able to articulate and explain the Christian faith to those hungry for Christ. Liturgical competence is essential, as is fluency in traditional language forms of worship. A lot of parish activities occur in the evenings in order to minister to working-age people. The position is expected to last one year and is expected to be on "house for duty" terms.
The Diocese of London is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults through the use of the Safer Recruitment practice guidance. This role is subject to acceptable pre-appointment checks, including a satisfactory Enhanced DBS Check.
Duties and Responsibilities
Regular responsibilities (essential)
· Full liturgical participation, on a rota (celebration / deaconing of the Eucharist at 9, 10, and 11am on Sundays, and sometimes at 12.30pm on Tuesdays / officiating Evensong on Sundays at 5pm and occasionally during the week).
· Preaching well.
· The preparation of couples for their marriage or wedding blessing; putting together orders of service; running rehearsals.
· Planning, and officiating at, funerals and memorial services, with accompanying pastoral conversations and support.
· Regular liturgical administrative work (e.g. preparing orders of service for key occasions).
· Supporting classes for baptism and confirmation, and at times leading these.
· Liaising with the office team regarding the progress of various events, services, and initiatives.
· Use of parish social media.
Occasional responsibilities (helpful)
· Participation in Livery events (deputising for the Rector by taking services, often preaching, and/or saying grace at dinners).
· Hearing confessions, on particular days or by appointment.
· A supportive presence at various parish initiatives (e.g. Bible study, Whitechapel Mission).
· Attend PCC and any relevant committees.
