The School of Modern Languages and Cultures seeks to appoint a talented individual to the role of Assistant Professor in TESOL and Digital Language Learning Technology. Federating research and teaching in languages and cultures from around the world, The School's expertise spans Europe, the Arab world, Russophone Eurasia, Hispanic America, and East Asia, and their mutual socio-cultural, intellectual and linguistic relations. Language pedagogy is central to what we do, through our undergraduate degree programme in languages and cultures, and our Centre for Foreign Language Study, which offers students from across the university the opportunity to learn languages in the way and at the level best suited to them.

The successful applicant will contribute especially to the delivery and development of Durham's highly successful MA in TESOL and Applied Linguistics, which has a long-standing reputation for attracting and training teachers of English from around the world. The programme joins the School from the Durham Centre for Academic Development in 2025/26, and we anticipate the move will reinforce synergies and exchanges of good practice in the domain of language learning and language pedagogy.
