An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated assistant psychologist to join the Adult CLDT Trafford Team based at Sale Waterside. The successful applicant will be well supported by a Clinical Psychologist and will have access to regular supervision and a personal development plan with opportunities to further develop their skills. The Adult CLDT Trafford is part of Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Trust (CWP), which provides comprehensive learning disability services across the Cheshire, Wirral and Trafford. The team links closely into the wider learning disability care group within CWP, and has excellent governance and support structures. CWP also hosts the Centre for Autism, Neuro Developmental Disorders and Intellectual Disabilities (CANDDID) and has a commitment to research and quality improvement initiatives. The team also links closely with our colleagues in Greater Manchester, as part of a wider Greater Manchester Network. The post requires an enthusiasm and commitment to working with adults with learning disabilities within a person-centred approach. Psychology is a valued and respected component of the team. The post holder will work with the existing psychology team to support psychology provision. In addition to direct work with service users there is a particular focus on supporting the team with formulation and advice and consultation clinics. We would also encourage the post holder to be involved in broader service and professional issues, such as training and research. We are confident that we can support ongoing professional development that is sensitive to the needs of the individual, their interests and the often under recognised psychological needs of this client group. Our psychology services are organised so as to have locality management coupled with parallel professional systems for support and supervision.Working for our organisation CWP provides health and care services for local people, including mental health, learning disability, community physical health and all-age disability care - including the provision of three GP surgeries.   • Good honours degree in Psychology (2.i or above). Eligibility for Graduate Membership of BPS
  • To undertake breakaway training or equivalent following appointment

  • Advanced keyboard skills
  • Other related academic qualifications to Masters or Doctorate level, The ability to communicate complex/ sensitive information where barriers to understanding exist. For example, instances requiring empathy and reassurance.
  • The ability to make judgements involving a range of facts or situations requiring analysis or comparison of a range of options. Also skills for assessing clients in one-to-one sessions, group dynamics or who are participating in research
  • The ability to organise straightforward tasks, activities or programmes, some of which may be ongoing. Also, the ability to plan and prioritises own workload, research programme activities; group sessions, etc
  • Working to Professional Guidelines.
  • Must be capable of working within guidelines; receives regular supervision/ direction
  • Desirable criteria
  • Ability to use routinely available spreadsheet/database software (Excel, Access, etc.)
  • Record of having published in either peer reviewed or academic or professional journals and/or books, Demonstrable relevant work experience with people who have complex mental health problems/ learning disabilities risk patterns and challenging behaviour.

  • Desire to progress to Clinical Training (DClinPsy)
