Full Job Description
The role will involve carrying out complex mental health and neurodevelopmental assessments (under supervision); doing joint work with YJS workers and CAMHS colleagues; offering some targeted Mental health interventions to children and young people (e.g. psychological formulation, Emotional coping skills work; CBT for anxiety/low mood). The role includes regular data collection and auditing of the cases seen in YJS/CAMHS, attending multi-agency consultations and also supporting with teaching and consultation to the YJS team directly.
This post is a full-time permanent post that should appeal to enthusiastic and highly motivated candidates who are interested in developing skills in assessment of children with complex needs. The wider CAMHS has a number of clinical psychologist, trainees and assistants and you would be linked in with other clinical psychologist for your professional development, alongside receiving supervision from a clinical psychologist., We require an Assistant Psychologist who has experience working with a children's social care or mental health setting as this is a higher banding AP post.

This is an Assistant Psychologist post supporting the work we do at Southampton CAMHS with the Youth Justice Service (YJS). Southampton Youth Justice Service (SYJS based at Southampton City Council, Civic Centre, Southampton, SO14 7LY) works with children from as young as 10 up to 18 years of age, that break the law. These children could have been sentenced by a court or have come to the attention of the police but not been charged. We currently have a CAMHS Mental Health Practitioner who provides specialist assessments, psychological formulations and interventions for children and young people who present with mental health needs at our CAMHS service, and who are known to the Southampton Youth Justice Team., Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is a newly established organisation, bringing together expertise from across mental health, learning disabilities, community, and physical health services.
