Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for 2 Assistant Psychologists to join our Learning Disability Teams: one to be based in the North Oxfordshire team, and the other in the City & South team.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills including intervention and assessment skills within the Learning Disability MDT. Previous assistants within the team have successfully gone on to train as Clinical or Counselling Psychologists, or have secured other assistant psychologist roles within the NHS.

1. Whether you have a driving license and access to a car during the working day, or how you will be able to travel between bases and client homes as required for the role (noting that much of the county may not be accessible by public transport).
2. Whether you have a preference for being based in the North (Banbury/Witney/Bicester/Kidlington) or the City & South (Oxford city/Abingdon/Didcot/Wantage/Thame) team, or whether you wish to apply for both roles.
3. Please answer the following question in no more than 500 words: What are the most important things to consider when working with people with learning disabilities?, Within the role you will have the opportunity to learn to deliver a range of assessments: eligibility, dementia and behaviours of concern. You will also have the opportunity to observe qualified and trainee psychologists administer more specialist assessments including autism.
You will have the opportunity to deliver a range of interventions: individual therapy (as appropriate to the client and presenting problem), and indirect support to carers and family teams (team formulations, co-creating PBS plans, carer support and education), depending on experience and competence., We work within a hybrid working in office/at home/in the community model and find ways to maintain social as well as professional links. The team cover a wide geographical area and visit service users in the community. Across the teams we also benefit from free tea and coffee as well as free parking at some of our bases.

+ All new starters have a 6 month probationary period. This, together with the induction process, aims to create a positive supportive working environment allowing new employees to learn key elements of their role over a reasonable timescale
+ Candidates not currently employed by the Trust who attend an interview for non-qualified Band 1-5 posts are required to undertake numeracy and literacy assessments.
