Full Job Description

We are looking to recruit a motivated Assistant Psychologist to join our team, working 2 days per week.

The Neuropsychiatry Service is an outpatient regional service at St George's Hospital that provides assessment and treatment for adults over the age of 18 with neurological illness or head injuries who have associated psychiatric problems. The service is closely allied to the regional neuroscience centre based at the Atkinson Morley Wing of St. George's Hospital, serving South West London, Surrey and parts of West Sussex. The team includes consultant neuropsychiatrists, neuropsychiatry and neurology trainees, a specialty doctor, a specialist nurse, psychological therapists, and clinical psychologists.

To assist in clinically related administration, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work. In particular, to administer, collect and score psychometrics for service outcome
measures, maintain the database, analyse data and write up appropriate reports.

To support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients within the service, providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a clinical psychologist, working independently according to a plan agreed with a clinical psychologist and within the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures., (Under appropriate supervision from a qualified clinical psychologist or CBT therapist)

1. To observe clinical psychological assessments and contribute to the writing of psychological reports.

2. Where appropriate, to undertake protocol based psychological assessments, including neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client's care.

3. To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client's problems.

4. To assist in the coordination and running of therapeutic groups.To observe groups and contribute to the clinical notes of these sessions.

5. To attend and contribute to appropriate team meetings.

Teaching, Training and Supervision

1. To undertake mandatory and statutory training, supervision and annual appraisal as required by Trust policy.
2. In common with all psychology and psychotherapies staff, to receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines.

3. To develop skills and competencies that assist in the delivery of current duties.

Management, Recruitment and Service Development
1. To assist in the design and implementation of service development projects within the service as required.
2. To attend meetings in which service developments are planned and discussed.

Other

1. To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the post holder's professional and team/operational manager(s).

2. To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing in accordance with professional codes of practice of the British Psychological Society and Trust policies and procedures.

3. To prepare test materials and visual aids as required.

4. To undertake specific administrative duties as required.
