Full Job Description

We seek a Head of Project Accounting/Assistant Regional Accounting Director (ARAD) for our UK Region to oversee core accounting activities for managed cost centres and project-financial tasks. Responsibilities include ensuring accurate processing of timesheets, expense reports, accounts payable, billing, accounts receivable, cost recovery, and other financial management functions. The ARAD should be an experienced finance professional with strong leadership, management, and analytical skills. They must effectively leverage staff and resources to execute functions and initiatives, train and mentor project accountants, and build relationships with Operations and Project Managers. Continuous process improvement, stakeholder communication, and consistency in finance and accounting operations are key. You will receive guidance from the UK Finance Director, Finance Director - International, and Operations Accounting Director. The role aims to ensure adherence to HDR policies, business standards, accounting principles, client obligations, and compliance standards., ARAD Functions

  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of Project Accountants.
  • Manage the monthly project accounting cycle, making sure that key deadlines are met.
  • Support Operations Leadership with financial analysis and performance metrics of projects.
  • Review project financials, including revenue recognition, reforecasting, and helping to resolve financial issues.
  • Analyse and report revenue positions on projects for the business overall, oversee mid-year forecasting, and prepare annual operating budgets.
  • Assist with project management training, information system training, and process improvements.
  • Project Accountant Functions
  • Maintain a small portfolio of projects, ensuring adherence to current policies and procedures.
  • Provide financial data to Project Managers and Area Managers and participate in project reviews.
  • Department Accountant Functions
  • Ensure the production of client invoicing meets contractual requirements and HDR guidelines.
  • Confirm Accounts Payable functions and coordinate with Procurement as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with HDR timekeeping and expense report policies.

    Degree level or equivalent
  • Must be a Chartered Accountant.
  • Minimum 4yrs experience in Project Accounting is essential (experience within Engineering or Construction highly advantageous)
  • Experience as an FC in a dynamic international consulting business, preferably in engineering or construction.
  • Excellent financial and management reporting skills, advanced WIP and project accounting experience.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, credibility with stakeholders, and high emotional intelligence.
  • Effective communication with financial and non-financial individuals, team player, and experienced people manager.
  • Strong customer service ethic, highly analytical, detail-oriented, structured, and organised., Bachelor's degree in a closely related field or combination of education and relevant experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience; an advanced degree may offset years of experience
  • Proficiency with MS Office including Word and Outlook
  • Excellent verbal and written communication including grammar, punctuation, proofreading, spelling and telephone skills
  • Flexibility and ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and collaborate with various managers in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated, well-organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to handle confidential information
