Full Job Description

David Game College is an outstanding, independent day and boarding college, based in Tower Hill. We have an inclusive ethos and we admit students within the age range of 13 and 22 years old. Due to expansion, we are seeking to appoint an Assistant SENCo with experience as a Specialist Teacher, Speech and Language Therapist or Higher Level Teaching Assistant.

Main Responsibilities

Work alongside the SENCo to take responsibility for agreed activities / interventions. This will involve assessing, planning, and delivering interventions for individuals or small groups, including reporting on achievement, progress and development.

  • Take a lead role, alongside the SENCo, within the college to address the needs of students who need particular help to overcome barriers to learning. This may involve being a Personal Tutor to students with additional needs.

  • Provide support for students and teachers in order to raise standards of achievement and to encourage independent learning.

  • Assist in the development of appropriate resources and teaching strategies.

  • Provide support with maintaining student records, liaising with outside agencies and coordinating the exam access arrangements process.

  • Skills and Experience
  • Experience working with students with additional needs in secondary schools or sixth-form / FE colleges.

  • A teaching qualification at Level 5 or above, such as a Diploma in Teaching Learners with Specific Learning Difficulties, or a Level 7 PGCE.

  • This role could also suit a Speech and Language Therapist with experience in schools, who would like to develop their career within the education sector. Alternatively, you will be a knowledgeable HLTA with a Level 4 qualification, or equivalent experience.

  • Applicants will have a good working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice 2015 and its implications for our students.

  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development within SEND specialist areas, such as Autism, Specific Learning Difficulties, and Speech, Language and Communication Needs.


  • There is scope to tailor the role to suit the skills and experience of the right individual, who is keen to participate in an exciting new project.

    Salary: (to be pro rata if part-time) Dependent on qualifications and experience

    Superannuation: Workplace Pension Scheme

    Working Hours: (3 days a week, Term Time Only

    Contract type: Permanent Part Time
