Our pupils are encouraged to achieve totheir best personally, academically, physically and socially.As Assistant SEND Co-ordinator, you will support the SENDCo andwork alongside a dedicated team of HLTA's and LSA's tocollaborate with staff, parents and outside agencies in order toprovide support, guidance to students with special educationalneeds. This will include monitoring and reviewing the quality ofSEND provision, ensuring our SEND Policy is implementedeffectively and support staff in maintaining high standards ofprovision., The Assistant SENDCo will assist in:

  • Determining the strategic development of the Special Educational Needs (SEN) Policy
  • and provision in the school.
  • The day-to-day operation of the SEN policy and co-ordination of specific provision to
  • support individual pupils with SEN or a disability.
  • Providing professional guidance to colleagues, working closely with staff, parents and
  • other agencies.
  • Providing targeted interventions and mentoring for pupils with Special Educational Needs
  • (SEN).
  • Establishing therapeutic relationships with pupils and interacting with them according to
  • their individual needs.
  • Developing a holistic approach that enable learners to make progress by working with
  • school staff, parents and external agencies. Core Responsibilities: 1) Strategic development of SEN policy and provision The Assistant SENDCo, will support the SENDCo as required, to:
  • Monitor and review the quality of SEND provision.
  • Contribute to the self-evaluation of provision for pupils with SEN or a disability.
  • Ensure the SEND Policy is put into practice, offering support to staff to maintain effective
  • provision.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of national and local initiatives which may affect the
  • school's policy and practice.
  • Deliver training and share best practice with other school staff.
  • 2) Operation of the SEND Policy and co-ordination of provision The Assistant SENDCo will support the SENDCo as required to:
  • Maintain an accurate SEND register.
  • Provide guidance to colleagues on teaching pupils with SEN or a disability, and advising
  • on the graduated approach to SEN support.
  • Be aware of the provision in the local offer.
  • Work with educational psychologists, health and social care professionals, and other
  • external agencies as required.
  • Be a key point contact for external agencies, especially the local authority.
  • Analyse assessment data for pupils with SEN or a disability.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of intervention groups for pupils with SEN.
  • Co-ordinate and deliver screening and assessment for access arrangements.
  • Complete planned review meetings.
  • Track the progress of students with SEN needs using the available data and monitor the
  • impact of interventions. 3) Support for pupils with SEN or a disability The Assistant SENDCo, will support the SENDCo as required, to:
  • Identify a pupil's SEN.
  • Co-ordinate provision which meets the pupil's needs, and monitor its effectiveness.
  • Secure relevant services for the pupil.
  • Ensure records are maintained and kept up to date.
  • Review EHCPs (Education Health Care Plans) with parents or carers and the pupil.
  • Gather together EHCP evidence in line with the application process.
  • Manage and oversee the completion of One Page Profiles.
  • Communicate regularly with parents or carers.
  • Promote the pupil's inclusion in the school community and access to the curriculum,
  • facilities and extra-curricular activities.
  • Work with the designated teacher for looked-after children, where a looked-after pupil has
  • SEN or a disability.
  • Co-ordinate and deliver screening and assessment for Access Arrangements.
  • Take a leading role in transition.
  • Help students develop resilience and independence - forming positive relationships with
  • staff and peers. 4) Leadership and management The Assistant SENDCo, will support the SENDCo as required, to:
  • Working with the Headteacher and Governors to ensure the school meets its
  • responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 in terms of reasonable adjustments and access arrangements.
  • Prepare and review information the Local Governing Body is required to publish.
  • Contribute to the Academy Improvement Plan (AIP) and whole-school policy.

    Experience of working successfully with students/young
  • people and their families
  • A recognised qualification in Special Educational Needs
  • (SEN), such as a SENDCo qualification, or working towards one.
  • Experience of working with children or young people with a
  • range of special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Sound knowledge of SEND legislation and best practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the
  • ability to work effectively with staff, pupils, and external agencies.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of
  • children and young people.
  • Be able to establish relationships with students and their
  • families
  • The ability to organise, motivate and inspire students., Meet Higher Level Teaching Assistant standards or A/C Essential
  • equivalent qualification or experience Excellent numeracy/literacy skills equivalent to NVQ level 2 in A/C Essential English and Maths or GCSE 4-9 Participation in relevant external professional development in A/C Essential the last 3 years or willing to undertake A/C Desirable Relevant qualifications and training (e.g. Lego therapy, Desirable drawing and talking, creative therapy etc.) A/I Specialist skills/training in curriculum or leaning area e.g. bilingual, sign language 2. Experience Successful experience of handling difficult and sensitive A/I Essential situations A/I Essential Relevant and recent experience of working with children and young people A/I Desirable Experience of working in a SEMH setting Experience of producing reports and data to monitor the effectiveness of interventions delivered by teaching A/I Essential assistants/HLTAs and the impact they have on pupils when working with them in classes 3. Knowledge Have an understanding of mental health issues that affect A/I Essential young people and be able to adapt their working practices to each individual child. A/I Essential A good working understanding of SEMH needs of young people. A/I Essential An awareness of policies and procedures relating to child A/I Essential protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection. Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and the Equality Act (2010) 4.
