Full Job Description

Do you have an in-depth understanding of the needs of students with SEND? Are you committed to planning and evaluating interventions and strategies to help them succeed? At MVA, 42% of our students are on the SEND register, 1 in 10 have ADHD, and 1 in 5 are autistic. MVA is an award-winning DFE-accredited online independent school for students aged 11 - 18. Founded in December 2020, we have become the fastest-growing independent school in the UK and have won multiple awards including the National Business Award for Best Business in the UK with under 50 Staff in 2022. In 2023, the Good Schools Guide described our SEND and Learning Support as 'the best we've seen for an online school', and the department as 'immensely proactive'. Explore our website (https://www.minervavirtual.com/) to learn all about us, including our Four Pillars, Teachers, recent news and pupil/parent testimonials. You can also see an introductory video here. MVA's SEND team currently consists of the SENDCo, one Assistant SENDCo and a SEND Support Lead. An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced and suitably qualified teacher with SEND specialism to join us as our second Assistant SENDCo. Our vision is to provide an effective and consistent level of nurture and personalised one-to-one support to students across the school. This is a role where your hard work will make a significant difference to young people learning online. You will work closely with students, parents and teachers to remove barriers to learning and will support Mentors, Heads of Year and Senior Leaders to inform and implement appropriate interventions to ensure our students are supported in developing essential character strengths that will support lifelong health and wellbeing. We invite applications from candidates with proven experience in supporting a wide range of young people to achieve success, including students with diverse needs including SEND and Mental Health. Applications for this role must be submitted through TES and we ask candidates to indicate details of their minimum and maximum availability for the role in their personal statement. This role comes with a high degree of flexibility and potential for development to full-time, in-time. We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role. Therefore, if you are interested, please submit your application as early as possible. As this is a remote role, you will be required to have a suitable home-working set-up which should include a laptop. MVA is an affordable, accessible online independent school that delivers world-class education with a true sense of community. It is the perfect school for modern times - combining smart technology and engaging online resources with one-to-one support, active group learning and exciting multi-disciplinary projects. We offer students the flexibility to learn from the comfort of their home, and anywhere in the world, while ensuring they develop the social skills required to live fulfilling lives and succeed in the workplaces of the future. We champion self-sufficiency, collaboration, problem-solving, creative and critical thinking, leadership, and mindfulness. Our motto - Together We Thrive - is translated into the day-to-day experience of students & staff at the school through our Ways of Being, devised by students for the whole community. We endeavour always to be:

  • Ambitious
  • Aware
  • Considerate
  • Kind
  • Mindful
  • Reflective
  • Responsible
  • MVA is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
