Full Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time, term time only assistant therapist to join our team to work with children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities to support the development of independence skills. This new innovative post involves working alongside Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy teams within Special schools in North Tyneside, following a practice development approach to creating opportunities within the classroom and school day for children to develop independence in communication and activities of daily living., The successful candidate will work in partnership with therapy teams and teaching staff to support children with health needs within their educational setting.
The role will be predominately classroom based, seizing and creating opportunities for children to develop independence in their use of alternative and augmentative communication (both low and high technology) and in activities of daily living (mealtimes, dressing, self care etc.)
The post holder will work closely alongside education staff to foster and maintain a supportive environment to allow children to practice skills with support to achieve independence, which will also include demonstration and coaching to the wider education workforce.
