Full Job Description

In Southampton our leadership has been deemed as Outstanding by Ofsted (May 2023) and we are looking for an Assistant Team Manager to join our enthusiastic team to support in continuing to deliver good services to children in care. We are currently seeking a committed and supportive person to join one of our Pathways Through Care teams who support children in care up to the age of 18 years old. We are looking for a social work assistant team manager who cares about delivering aspirational, permanent care, support, and great parenting to our children. Services for children in care and care leavers go way beyond statutory responsibilities, delivering care at a level where all our children and young people are the best that they can possibly be, where they are engaged in all aspects of their care and are not only cared for, but critically know they are cared about. As Ofsted has stated: 'Practitioners are supported by energetic and responsive frontline managers who maintain clear, confident and close oversight of children's progress'. We are looking for someone to join this team to ensure good performance and support is provided to children in care as their Corporate Parent. About the role: This service will focus on achieving permanence and helping children to recover from past trauma. We are ambitious for each child and young person and what they can achieve in their relationships, communities, education, training, and life's big adventures. There are also times that reunification is considered and we are looking for someone who can support social workers in moving these plans forward and working with family members. The service enthusiastically engages in the corporate parenting community in delivering services which truly meet the needs of all our children in care and care leavers. Advocacy and participation are central to the service's core values.

We are looking for an Assistant Team Manager who cares passionately about children in care and care leavers and who will continue to build a service where permanence, acceptance and lasting, trusting relationships matter. Come Join Us: Southampton City Council and its partners have made a collective commitment to run well-managed services, ensure manageable workloads for social workers, provide high levels of support and expert guidance to help with complex situations. We would like to warmly welcome those who live in or near to the city, and those who are looking to relocate to the area. We are committed to equal opportunities and welcome a broad diversity of talent to apply. What we can offer you: Here at SCC we have a range of different perks and benefits, a few examples can be found below.

  • A generous local government pension scheme.
  • Flexible working (role dependant). Up to 13 days of Flexi Leave.
  • Hybrid working arrangements (role dependant).
  • 25 days annual leave (pro rata), plus bank holidays.
  • Online Benefits - salary sacrifice schemes, benefits and discounts.
  • Great local transport links.
  • Employee assistance programme with access to our health wellbeing and support.
