Full Job Description

  • Assist in developing and implementing a comprehensive transport strategy aligning with company objectives, focusing on cost efficiency, sustainability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Supervise a team of approximately 50, including Drivers and Office Staff.
  • Support coordination and management of all freight transportation activities, ensuring timely deliveries and effective route planning.
  • Stay updated on industry regulations, transportation laws, and environmental standards, ensuring compliance within operations.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining service quality through continuous analysis of transportation expenses and implementation of efficient practices.
  • Assist in establishing KPIs for the transportation department, tracking metrics, and reporting performance to senior management.
  • Contribute to implementing risk management strategies to address transportation challenges and develop contingency plans.
  • Evaluate and recommend transportation management systems and relevant technologies to enhance processes and efficiency.
  • Support the introduction and oversight of sustainable transportation practices to minimize the environmental impact.
  • Assist in leading and motivating the transportation team, providing guidance, coaching, and fostering a positive work environment to achieve departmental goals.
  • Attend customer reviews and produce required statistics for meetings.
  • Conduct regular 1-2-1 meetings with direct reports.
  • Assist in conducting annual PDR interviews with direct reports.

    Have a good understanding of legal compliance, driver's hours and WTD's.
  • Track record of leading successful change.
  • Strong evidence of management skills and making key business decisions.
  • Capability to advise and motivate team to deliver results for the business.
  • Ability to present to Senior Key contacts within the business and to external customers.
  • Have excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • IT literate including MS Office. Strong analytic ability in review data and reports.
  • Desirable Skills required:
  • Previous experience of working within the FMCG transport industry, specifically chilled supply chain. - Desirable
  • Proven experience in customer relationship management.
  • Have managed financial budgets and annual Profit and Loss responsibility.
  • Hold international or national CPC qualification and previous Transport Management experience. (CPC training provided for the right candidate)

    Salary of between £36,500pa and £38,000pa, depending on experience.
  • Hours of work: Monday to Friday, 08:30hrs to 17:00hrs.
