Full Job Description

As part of our continuing growth strategy, we are looking to appoint an Associate Director in Building Design, with a strong mechanical bias, to help support our comprehensive range of services for building owners.

The role will include the responsibility to deliver the building services designs for principally refurbishment projects, with an emphasis on net zero carbon transition. Additionally, it offers the opportunity to innovate on existing industry processes and help shape our own unique software to support this.

With a bias towards mechanical engineering, the successful applicant will have experience in the design of HVAC systems alongside a good general working knowledge of building services within the commercial property sector.

We are ideally looking for candidates who are members of either the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), Institution of Mechanical Engineering (IMechE) or Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) with three to five years post qualification experience.

Core responsibilities

The Associate Director's duties will include, but are not limited to:

o The ability to conceptualise the best and most efficient way of detailing a design solution with due regard to ESG requirements and client aspirations

o Assisting in the delivery of all aspects of M&E services refurbishment and new installation projects; working to a programme, budget, and specification to include ongoing monitoring, commissioning and post occupancy evaluation processes

o Working in client facing environments. Being proficient in problem solving, negotiation and general interactional situations

o Being able to develop business, gauge and nurture client expectations. Working with the business development/marketing team to promote the business and grow our client-base

o Giving presentations and writing clear and detailed reports which highlight the practical implications of design(s) and other MEP related requirements.

o Promoting energy efficiency and other sustainability initiatives

o Communicating and co-ordinating project works with architects, other engineers, contractors, building managers, tenants and other stakeholders

o Managing teams of external consultants and contractors

o Developing and maintaining management systems and procedures for project management tasks

o Designing the layout of mechanical and electrical distribution circuits

o Strategizing and delivering quality control, evaluating and making changes where necessary.

o Making sure that all building services meet health and safety (CDM) and environmental legislation requirements

o Negotiating contracts with clients

o An engineering degree and a minimum of 5 years of engineering experience or a non-cognate graduate with a minimum of 5 years of engineering experience and recognised engineering accreditations (such as CIBSE LCC/LCEA etc.)

o Membership of CIBSE, IMechE or IET

o Strong mechanical engineering knowledge

o AutoCAD M&E

o An understanding of UK construction contracts and processes

o An aspiration to deliver engineering excellence with a focus on sustainability within design

o Strong communication skills, including written and verbal communication.

o Clear focus on customer relationship management aligned to business value and profit

o Strong leadership skills

Desired skills

It would be beneficial, but not essential, for the right candidate to have:

o A good working knowledge of electrical engineering and/or public health services

o An understanding of BIM processes including REVIT, COBIE and IES dynamic simulation modelling
