Full Job Description

The Trust is looking to appoint an Experienced Nurse/AHP/Midwife in the capacity of Associate Director of Nursing and Harm free care. The successful candidate will provide clear leadership and work alongside key stakeholders to ensure the provision of high-quality, harm free patient care ensuring the most efficient and cost-effective use of resources. The purpose of this new role is to provide strategic leadership and drive the delivery and development of highly complex services across the Corporate Nursing and Harm Free care Directorate and the wider ELHT professional family.

The Associate Director of Nursing and harm free care will provide professional advice and leadership to the divisional and corporate clinical and non-clinical leaders to develop, deliver and improve services, ensuring local and national targets are achieved through the delivery of the best quality patient care and experience within set financial controls and resources. The post holder will be professional accountable to the Chief Nurse and will be required to implement operational harm free objectives within the Trust which will involve working closely with the Clinical Divisions, Specialty Directorates, Pharmacy and AHP professional leads., · Take the responsibility for the co-ordination, analysis, dissemination and monitoring of agreed key performance indicators within the Nursing Assessment Performance Framework. Ensuring that the Nursing, Midwifery, Health Visiting, AHP teams understand and use the data to identify trends, implement corrective action and improve their service to meet accreditation standards, improve clinical effectiveness and reduce harm.

· The post holder has the responsibility for the delivery of harm free care by maintaining a clear understanding across the organisation of the compliance, in practice, of our staff with specific practice standards.

· Lead key quality supportive services including Tissue Viability, Falls, Dementia, Learning disability and Enhanced care service leads.

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust provides acute, community and specialist services to the population of East Lancashire and Lancashire/South Cumbria.

Services are provided from two main sites, the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and Burnley General Teaching Hospital. Acute services are housed on the Blackburn site and include the emergency department, the 32 bedded Critical Care Unit and the acute surgical and medical units. The ED is a trauma unit in the Lancashire Trauma network.

ROYAL BLACKBURN TEACHING HOSPITAL

The Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital provides acute services in 503 + 70 day case beds

The hospital is situated just off junction 5 of the M65 and is our main hospital site receiving all emergency patients dealing with all emergency inpatient care. All blue light ambulances attend this site., · Strategically lead on the implementation of Shared Governance in the Trust

· Support the Chief Nurse and Deputy Chief Nurses to deliver the vision for nursing across the Trust, improving standards, clinical excellence and improve the outcomes of nurse sensitive indicators.

· To work with the senior team to deliver organisational responsibilities for monitoring and delivering mandatory requirements (e.g. CQC, NHSLA, CQUIN)

· Attend relevant Assurance Committees, participate and deliver relevant papers and reports as required.

· Provide a corporate lead on nursing and midwifery documentation.

· Provide a corporate lead in relation to the implementation of electronic patient records, pertinent to nursing and midwifery records.

· To lead and facilitate the development of auditing nursing practices to ensure effective processes are in place.

· To act as a role model providing coaching, mentorship, and or clinical supervision demonstrating advance levels of knowledge, judgement and decision making.

· Develop and maintain communication with people on complex matters, issues, and ideas and/or in complex situations.

· Participate and contribute to the strategic development of clinical leadership.

· Facilitate the sharing of best practice both within the Trust and externally.

· Work in partnership with others to develop, take forward and evaluate direction, for a range of polices, service developments and strategies.

· Maintain and develop an environment and culture that improves health, safety, and security.

· Develop a culture that improves quality and reduces harm.

· Promote equality and value diversity.

· Coordinate, monitor and review the use of financial resources.

· Accountable for the delivery of agreed objectives, targets and quality standards, which supports the Trust to achieve all quality outcomes described in the Trust Quality Improvement Strategy.

· Other initiatives/projects may be delegated to the post holder as required according to local and national priorities (for e.g., Rapid Tranquilisation')

· Line manage the matron from Tissue Viability, Dementia, Learning Disability and Enhanced Care.

· Line manage the falls specialist nurse

· Line manage the Assistant Director of Patient Experience (complaints team)

  • Registered Nurse/Midwife with Current NMC registration or Allied Health Care Professional with current HCPC Registration

  • Formal qualification in Leadership / coaching

  • Master's degree, Relevant and demonstrable experience at senior level in nursing or midwifery.

  • Evidence of extensive expert professional knowledge, supplemented by specialist managerial / leadership training and CPD

  • Ability to plan and organise a broad range of complex activities across difference professional groups, which will require ongoing review.

  • Detailed knowledge of the NHS agenda with explicit understanding of currently issues in nursing and midwifery/AHP., Highly developed communication skills, verbally and written.

  • Ability to prioritise work, meet tight deadlines and work independently.

  • Ability to lead, motivate, enthuse and empower others.

  • Demonstrate the trusts values and behaviours at all times.
