Full Job Description

The Associate Group Manager is responsible to the Group Manager and provides a managerial focus with the Group Manager and Clinical Leads in the development and provision of a comprehensive, high quality, patient centered service within the resources available. The post has key functions: operational management of the specialties within Neurosciences, including the delivery of performance against financial and activity targets; supporting the development and delivery of service strategy; organisational development and the management of risk.
Operational Management
1. In conjunction with the Group Manager, lead and manage allocated specialties, ensuring clear communication and robust implementation of policy, business objectives and agreed targets.
2. Chair and lead meetings, working with the Group Manager, Modern Matron and Clinical Leads to ensure sound operational management of all areas with robust, reviewable systems.
3. Manage the operational performance of the specialties to achieve delivery of national and local targets, the development and delivery of improvement plans and reengineering of roles/models of care.
4. In liaison with the Group Manager and Group Finance Manager deliver against financial and activity profiles for the specialty/departments, identify risks and implement and review risk reduction strategies.
5. Implement and review robust systems and processes so that speciality budgets are effectively managed, and financial balance is achieved, within Trust budgetary rules, Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions.

Strategic and Service Development
1. Contribute to and deliver robust business plans for specialty/service, In conjunction with senior colleagues, identifying opportunities for new markets and schemes to generate additional income and/or reduce expenditure.
2. Proactively engage in interagency working to develop and implement strategies/services that cross traditional organisational boundaries, encouraging a seamless health system from a patient perspective.
3. In conjunction with the Clinical Lead, Group Manager and Modern Matron assume responsibility within the specialty for the development and improvement of patient care through identifying and responding to opportunities for change that will lead to improvements in quality or efficiency and assist in the development of clinical practice.
4. In conjunction with the Group Manager and Group Finance Manager provide support and take responsibility for reviewing income and expenditure within the specialty and the production and delivery of strategies to ensure the business viability of services.
Organisational Development
1. In conjunction with the Clinical Lead, Group Manager and Modern Matron, maintain an open, proactive and collaborative culture, supported by effective two-way communication systems and processes that promote the achievements and activities of the specialty and maintains clinical standards.
2. In conjunction with the Group Manager, Modern Matron and Workforce Business Partner ensure that robust systems are established for the appraisal and continual development of all staff within the specialty, in line with the Knowledge and Skills Framework, promoting the effective use of skills and flexibility through professional and personal development.
3. Work with the Workforce Business Partner to effectively and sensitively manage organisational change and employee relations issues within the specialty.
Risk Management
1. Develop, implement and review robust systems to effectively manage risks, including ensuring that risk registers are populated and utilised at specialty levels, in order to manage risk and keep the Speciality
Management Group informed.
2. Manage the implementation within relevant specialty of, the provisions of the Trust's health and safety policy and all other policies, procedures and safety rules .
General
1. Participate in the Trust bed capacity management arrangements.
2. Provide operational cross cover with operational managers across the Group.
