Full Job Description

The Clinical Biochemistry Department at the John Radcliffe Hospital provides laboratory services to the hospitals and general practices of Oxfordshire. Due to the increased biochemistry testing in the sendaway/specialist (including FIT) we have a vacancy for an associate practitioner. The post is for 37.5 hours per week and some out of hours work is expected.

We invite candidates who already have good levels of laboratory knowledge and skills as this post builds on that skill set for more specialist biochemical areas of testing.

The Department of Clinical Biochemistry is one of the large laboratory services within the Trust. We analyse over 9 million tests per year across a wide range of testing area, both routine and specialist, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We support every clinical specialty in the hospitals, community and for specialist testing a wider geographical area., Prepare specimens for the manual/specialist section of the laboratory including specimen requesting, pre-analytical sample handling and analysis on automated instrumentation. This includes handling and analysing faecal specimens. The post also includes a significant portion of time supporting the sendaway section.

Maintain knowledge and understanding of the purpose of the testing, and the laboratory analysers.

Run analysers following standard operating procedures using appropriate health and safety considerations and applying all necessary quality management requirements.
