Full Job Description

To participate in the processing of patients' samples within the Biochemistry Department to provide accurate and timely results to aid clinical diagnosis. This requires consistent maintenance of professional standards including: adhering to departmental policies and procedures; maintaining strict patient confidentiality; treating all patient samples as potential biological hazards; adhering to health and safety regulations, maintaining effective working relationships with staff at all levels., Main tasks:

o To work under supervision as an associate practitioner.

o To perform required bench work under supervision ensuring samples are processed and results produced in an accurate and timely manner.

o To carry out all work to specified standards as lay down by the professional bodies including Institute of Biomedical Sciences (IBMS), Health Care Professions Council (HCPC), and United Kingdom Accreditation Services (UKAS).

o To ensure data integrity when entering patient demographics onto the Meditech computer system.

o Respond to queries in a confident, efficient and knowledgeable manner, referring to senior staff when necessary.

o To ensure proper and efficient use of equipment and consumables without wastage.

o To participate in maintaining a system for the safe and confidential storage and retrieval of proper records and specimens both physically and electronically.

o To participate in the routine work of the department as directed by senior staff and following departmental Standard Operating Procedures.

o To contribute and participate in departmental meeting including taking minutes.
