Full Job Description

Effective asthma management at school has many positive outcomes including improving the ability to learn and participate fully during their school day. Promoting an asthma friendly environment through training and the adoption of asthma-friendly school policies and procedures will ensure that CYP are safe while they are in school.

This project, which is a community-based intervention, aims to improve outcomes for children and young people with asthma, including increased staff knowledge and confidence in relation to asthma management, increased confidence of CYP and their families in schools understanding and ability to support the CYP with managing their asthma in school, fewer school absences due to asthma-related illness and reduced asthma admissions and ED attendances.

The post will be hosted and supported by Bromley Healthcare but the focus of the service will be to implement the asthma-friendly schools program across South East London (SEL) education settings and upskill and empower Primary Care colleagues to provide asthma care to CYP and their families., 1Professional/ Clinical Responsibilities

Offer Asthma Friendly Schools (AFS) initiative to all schools across SEL, working collaboratively with them and community nursing asthma services in individual boroughs to embed AFS standards.

Work in collaboration with health and education colleagues within SEL to lead on the implementation of the Asthma Friendly Schools programme.

To act as advocate for patients within the area, to ensure a patient orientated approach to the delivery of care and to meet standards within the NHS National Bundle of Care for children and young people with asthma and other relevant guidelines.

To work autonomously as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Demonstrate excellent communication skills - verbal, non-verbal, written - on an individual basis and in group settings.

Employ well developed analytical skills in order to monitor and evaluate progress, presenting data and reports to stakeholders.

Provide professional and clinical leadership and expertise in asthma, acting as an expert resource in the education and community settings.

Demonstrate appropriate expert practice and highly specialist advice in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of establishing Asthma Friendly Schools across SEL.
