Full Job Description

As an ATS (Air Traffic Systems) Support at Heathrow, you will provide a timely Engineering response to the rectification of faults and failures and to the completion of planned maintenance in accordance with the NATS Systems. You will provide specialist engineering support to the Airport Operational Engineers at Heathrow Airport while also acting as a project lead and be the Unit's focal point. The specialist system of this role will be networks. You will be responsible for maintaining and configuring networking equipment such as switches, routers, and firewalls. You must have a good knowledge of Network design and topologies that interact to form a secure network. Duties

  • Maintain current knowledge of field specialism to provide expert support into the Heathrow operation.
  • Support the Unit in the completion of planned and corrective maintenance tasks on a wide range of airport systems.
  • Make operational decisions, provide guidance, specialist advice and assistance including an assessment of operational impact and to appraise relevant management and/or customers of any service impacting incidents or occurrences.
  • Maintain clear and accurate records for all activities where required to do so.
  • Supervise Airport Maintenance Engineers and contractors.
  • Act in accordance with the defined safety responsibilities of an Airport Operational Engineer.
  • Ensure team members have the necessary knowledge and skills.
  • Conducting post incident procedures to aid the provision of Incident Reports in the event of a safety related event.
  • Drive company vehicles both on public roads and on the airfield.

    Professional engineering qualification to Higher National Certificate (NVQ Level 4) as a minimum in Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications or Computer Science and relevant operational experience. N.B. The job holder may, in leiu of the above qualifications, have undertaken structured Engineering training (e.g. CAA Bletchley or apprenticeship recognised by a professional body) and have extensive engineering experience
  • In depth knowledge and experience within their specialism and general knowledge of the systems at airports and remote sites together with an understanding of the impact that these systems may have on operations and how they interrelate within the operational environment
  • Must be able to prioritise actions under pressure, be technically competent to work on a wide range of equipment and have a logical approach to problem solving
  • Ability to work as part of a team or on own initiative and possess effective judgement skills to maintain operational services in a safety critical environment
  • Must be the holder of a full UK driving licence
  • Possess commercial awareness to appreciate what impact a facility failure would have on our customers

    You will be required to be part of an On-call Rota of 1 week in 4. On-call periods are to provide 24/7 cover and attract an on-call allowance
