Full Job Description

Some of the duties include:

  • Work unsupervised whilst performing all standard hearing tests for both adults and children (>3 years of age) following professional standards and protocols.
  • Assist senior Audiologists in performing advanced audiological procedures.
  • Take detailed medical and audiological histories, interpret test results, identify red flags and where needed to onwards refer to appropriate stakeholders. Explain these to patients, relatives and carers in an appropriate, empathetic manner, being sensitive to the complex communication difficulties of patients who are Deaf or hard of hearing. Advise the adult patient on audiological management options and agree a treatment plan with them.
  • Perform physical examination of the ear and inspection of the ear canal and eardrum using an otoscope. Recognise referable ear conditions using clinical judgement and procedural guidelines.
  • Take a specialised and accurate ear impression by syringing dedicated earmould material into the ear canal in accordance with procedural guidelines. This will require effective communication with and the co-operation of the patient.

    This post is for a full time (37.5 hrs/week) and permanent position. The base for this post will be King Edward Hospital and the applicant may be required to cover clinics in other sites. You should have a BSc in Audiology or equivalent and will be registered with the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS, Clinical Physiologist) or Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC, Clinical Scientist). You should have experience in adult diagnostic and rehabilitative care.
